COVID-19: SA's latest statistics in last 24 hrs

A record-breaking wave of Covid-19 infections continues to sweep across South Africa.
20 999 new cases have been recorded in the last 24 hour cycle.
This figure’s pushed the total number of confirmed cases to 1 170 590. KZN’s active cases have breached the 80 thousand mark.
441 more people have lost their lives in the country. KZN registered the highest number of fatalities in the last 24 hours, at 132, taking the province's overall number of deaths to 5,002.

31 809 people have succumbed to Covid-19, nationally. Over 938 thousand others, no longer have the virus.
Now, South Africa's wait for the arrival of a Covid-19 vaccine has been cut by a month.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize's revealed that the country's secured one million doses of the SII/ Astra Zeneca vaccine.
He made the announcement during a briefing to Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Health yesterday.
He says the jab's from the Serum Institute of India and that a further 500 000 doses have been secured for February. Government's target is to immunise 67% of our population this year.
The vaccine will be rolled-out in phases with frontline healthcare workers prioritised.
Mkhize says government's in talks with other manufacturers to secure additional vaccines.
