Zuma to be in court for corruption hearing
The High Court has granted an application by former president Jacob Zuma to be physically present in court when his corruption trial resumes next week.
This was confirmed by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Wednesday morning, where the former president is set to appear next week.
“The hearing of the plea in terms of s106(1)(h) of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 set down from 10 August 2021, shall proceed in open court at the High Court of Pietermaritzburg,” the court said.
“The currently applicable Disaster Management regulations, particularly those regarding the wearing of masks, maintaining social distancing and the restriction on the number of attendees at indoor venues, must at all times be adhered to strictly.”

The NPA raised concerns around the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, as well as issues of security, during the application for the case to be held virtually.
Over 300 people died in the unrest while thousands were arrested.
Police Minister Bheki Cele assured South Africans at a press briefing on Tuesday that the police would be ready for any eventuality when the former president appears in court.
