Zuma has been refusing to testify before the commission - despite this court having ordered him to.

The commission is asking the court to impose a two-year jail sentence should it find him guilty of contempt.

Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi for the commission argued why Zuma should face direct jail time.

"There are strong reasons why Mr Zuma should be imprisoned and he should be fined or received a suspended sentence.

"His conduct threatens the entire constitutional order. Zuma has made public, he's utterance against this court.

"Those utterances are unjustified, false and malicious and probably, Mr Zuma engineered a situation in our submission quite deliberately to escape accountability."

Zuma has accused Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo of bias and demanded that he recuse himself.
