Zululand mayor says sexual harassment claims 'a smear campaign'
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The IFP’s Zululand's Mayor Thulasizwe Buthelezi has promised to fully cooperate with any investigation into sexual harassment claims made against him.
The promise comes after a municipal employee submitted a letter of complaint to the Department of Cooperative Governance, claiming a number of women were victimised and feared losing their jobs.
Buthelezi has responded to the allegations in a statement.
He says he's been the target of a smear campaign which began in 2017 when he became the district mayor.

He says anyone with an issue should take it up with the department or the police.
Meanwhile, the ANC Women's League in KZN has called on authorities to get to the bottom of these allegations.
"Cogta, the police, the Hawks and everyone must go where this thing happened in Zululand and investigate so that people will know that the government space is safe," says provincial secretary Zamazulu Sokhabase.
