Zululand mayor accused of victimising employees

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal wants the Cooperative Governance Department in the province to intervene in the Zululand District Municipality, where several managers have been removed from their positions.
The municipality is said to have asked 34 managers to submit their qualifications so they could be verified.
The process found five senior managers were not qualified for their jobs.
The municipality says it's going to advertise these posts.
The ANC has accused Mayor Thulasizwe Buthelezi of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) of victimising employees not affiliated with his party.
Spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela says due processes were not followed.
"We wish to warn the mayor of Zululand that he is not an executive mayor. He has got no authority to suspend and expel members who are his staff simply because they were supporting other political parties.
"You can't as a mayor decide on your own and instruct the municipal manager to do an audit of verification and dismiss staff without a council resolution. There are a number of wrong things he is doing in that municipality, forgetting that he is a mayor with one vote."
