Zululand community gets communal taps installed
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
More Zululand residents now have access to running tap water. Some communuties in northern KwaZulu-Natal have had to collect water from rivers and boreholes for years.
A multi-million-Rand pipe installation project has been installed in nine wards in Nongoma and Abaqulusi and has placed communal taps in communities.
Mthokozisi Duze, who is with Mhlathuze Water, is encouraging the country's other water boards to assist people, especially those in rural areas, who do not have access to tap water.
"The winner in this case will be the community - the poor mothers and fathers in rural areas who are going to have harvest water quicker and faster. They will be able to open communal taps and receive water without thinking where the next drop of water will come from," he said.

Meanwhile, thousands of people on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast have had to survive without water for several days now.
Ugu Municipal officials claim the water cuts are the result of employees interfering with water infrastructure.
They are furious at the municipality's refusal to pay them for not going to work during an illegal strike late last year.
Ugu officials met with union representatives and ward councillors yesterday.
