Zondo Commission sets new dates for Jacob Zuma's appearance

Former President, Jacob Zuma won't be appearing before the Inquiry into State Capture this week because he's preparing for his fraud and corruption case.

The Commission had set aside this week for Zuma to take the stand again but Chairperson, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo says that won't be happening:
"His attorneys wrote to the commission and said that he would not be appearing during this week.
"The reasons they gave include that he was busy preparing for his criminal trial and that his doctors have advised him to limit his movements because of his age and COVID-19. I do not want to comment at this stage, on his reasons."

Zondo says Zuma will now be asked to appear before the Commission from the 16th to the 20th of November. A decision on the issuing of a summons will be made on the 9th of next month.
"He and his lawyers have been informed that unless I am satisfied on that date that there are good grounds for them not to appear if they do not appear that application will proceed without them," said Zondo.
"I have also determined new dates for Mr Zuma's appearance before the commission."
Zuma's fraud and corruption trial - relating to the multi-billion rand arms deal - was postponed until the 8th of December.
