Zikalala says talks ongoing to resolve funeral parlour dispute
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
MEC for Economic Development, Sihle Zikalala says tension between funeral parlour operators in KZN are beginning to subside.
"We are saying all people should begin to work and continue to work freely. We are resolving issues of transformation which African practitioners were raising. We believe that the steering committee will be able to handle these issues," he says.
Zikalala has met with members of the National Funeral Parlours Association of SA who had called for white and Indian-owned funeral parlours to be banned from operating in black communities and townships.

The association accused them of restricting black-owned businesses. Zikalala says they want to find a solution for everyone.
"We're attending to issues that relate to the question of access as well as permits and the issue of the Road Accident Fund. We are in a process - we have established processes that will resolve all these issues," he says.
