Zikalala touched on the subject at the party's provincial executive committee lekgotla in Durban on Sunday.

"We must mask nothing from the masses. By all indications, it is clear that the ANC needs to do more to reconnect with our people, win back their trust, and score important victories for them.

"The people are not just struggling and supporting the ANC just for solidarity, but they support the ANC because they expect the ANC to deliver."

He said a political assessment can help determine why some people chose not to support the ANC during last year's local government elections.

And he's warned against power obsession.

"The question of who leads the ANC, the question of who is the regional leader, the provincial leader, the national leader was not raised. People have not really not having an issue about who leads the ANC as long as the ANC changes their life for the better."
