Zandile Gumede and co-accused to face over 2000 fraud and corruption charges

The Former eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede and her 21 co-accused will be facing 2786 charges when they go on trial.

They’re facing fraud and corruption-related charges relating to a multi-million-rand DSW tender.
State Prosecutor, Ashika Luckan told the court the State had managed to comply with the order set down in the previous sitting for the indictment and audit report, among others to be completed.
She confirmed the State handed over the report with its annexures and case docket to the defence in December.
The state also handed over copies of the indictment to the defence attorneys during the sitting.

The document is said to be 324 pages long and contains over 2700 charges.
Luckan asked that the matter be transferred to the Durban High Court in June for a pre-trial conference.
The case has been postponed and the bail for the accused extended.
