Sibusiso Mpungose was arrested in KwaDabeka, a day after three of his children - aged from 4 to 10 - were found hanged in their Wyebank home, west of Durban.

His 16-year-old stepdaughter's body was found in a bush in New Germany.

Mpungose kept his head bowed for most of today's brief appearance, except for one moment where the 44-year-old sobbed and pulled his top up to wipe his face.

The court heard that he will not be applying for bail.

The case was adjourned to next month for further investigations.

As he was led away, angry comments from the packed public gallery were directed at him.
