Workers set to down tools at Transnet
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Workers are planning to down tools at Transnet from next week.

A notice of intention to strike nationally is being filed on behalf of workers.
Wage talks between unions and the employer have collapsed.
Unions had demanded a 13.5% increase.
Transnet said it was struggling financially and instead made a counter-offer of only 1.5%.
Trade union Satawu, which represents 13 500 Transnet employees, says the offer by the employer is insulting under the current economic conditions.

“Today, before the end of the day, we are going to send a 48-hour notice to the employer that we will be embarking on a legal and protected strike,” the the union’s spokesperson Amanda Tshemese.
“We have received a letter from the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration to find ways of breaking the deadlock and find common ground between ourselves and the employer.
“If Transnet fails to table a better offer, on Monday we are going on strike.”
