Workers angry at worsening public services, says Cosatu

Congress of South African Trade Unions president Zingiswa Losi has called on the ANC to advance working class struggles

Losi, along with President Cyril Ramaphosa, delivered the main address at the trade union federation's Workers' Day rally in the Free State on Monday.

 

"Workers are angry at the deteriorating public services due to state capture and corruption. Workers are angry at essential services like the hospitals and schools, police and Home Affairs being starved of resources and stopping the need to serve the public."

She said the government must reverse the Municipal Systems Amendment Act as it denies 350 000 municipal workers their constitutional right to hold positions in a political party.

 

"Workers have not left their lines, workers have always insisted that their struggles be advanced in all fronts and have been very clear that working class struggles must be waged on the political front in the alliance at Nedlac, in Parliament and in the streets."
