Woolworths working with police
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
Woolworths says it is working with the police following the discovery of suspicious devices at two of its Durban stores.
The police responded to a fire at the Woolworths at The Pavilion at about one-thirty yesterday morning.
A device - which they say looked like a cell-phone - was removed from the scene by the Explosives Unit.
Hours later, however, the police were dispatched to the Woolworths at Gateway, where another device - one that they say looked like a torch attached to a cell-phone - was also removed.
Woolworths has this morning issued a statement, saying it is working with the appropriate authorities “to investigate this issue further” and that it is also taking “additional precautionary measures”.
“Both stores are open for trading,” Woolworths says.
In the meantime, police are currently investigating two cases of arson and cannot confirm the incidents are linked at this stage.
They say no arrests have been made yet.
