Khanyile was addressing students at the Durban University of Technology's Steve Biko campus this afternoon - shortly after his release from Westville Prison.

"As students of South Africa, we have determined our fate. We say we want free, decolonised education - come hell or high waters," he said.

The DUT student was released after 155 days behind bars - after the Constitutional Court granted him R250 bail yesterday. This, after several courts denied him bail.

"If we want free education to be a reality, we must be prepared to sacrifice. I have played my role, but by the looks of things, I don't think it's the last time I am going to prison," he said.

Khanyile faces a string of charges - including public violence and the possession of explosives- after being arrested during student protests.
