Woman airlifted from Drakensberg recovering in hospital

A woman is on the road to recovery after she was rescued from the Drakensberg.

KZN EMS spokesperson, Robert Mckenzie says the 49-year-old woman had been hiking on Central Peak on Saturday when she injured her foot.
"They called emergency services after the incident and combined rescue team hiked to the area and stayed with the woman overnight," Mckenzie said.

Mckenzie says after staying all night with the woman, search and rescue and paramedics airlifted her off the mountain yesterday morning.
"A 15 Squadron helicopter from the Air Force was activated with a combined search and rescue team. They flew up to the area and airlifted the woman out of the Drakensberg. She has been handed over to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg in a stable condition," he said.
