Actor dies after losing footing at Drakensberg waterfall

A 39-year-old Centurion-based actor has died in what appears to have been a freak accident, while filming at the Drakensberg, in KZN.

It’s understood that he was rehearsing a fight scene atop the Sterkspruit waterfall yesterday afternoon, when he lost his footing and plunged several metres into the waters below.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane says owing to the fading light and the dangers involved with mountain rescues - the search for the man’s body had to be suspended until today.
And at around 10.30am, the Pietermaritzburg SAPS Search and Rescue Unit - along with Okhahlamba Fire and Rescue and the SA Mountain Rescue Club - found him at the foot of the falls.

He was wedged between a bed of rocks, a-metre-and-a-half below the water.
Rescue workers placed his body in a stokes basket and carried him up to the top of the gorge, using an intricate rope rescue system to haul him up the steeper slopes.
Winterton police are investigating an inquest docket.
