107-year-old woman killed near Howick

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government has expressed its shock at the murder of a 107-year-old woman from Mpophomeni, near Howick in the Midlands.
The woman was attacked in her bedroom on Sunday night.
One of her grandchildren heard a noise at around midnight and went to investigate, only to find the suspect trying to escape.
A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crime after his family handed him over to police.
The province's Department of Social Development says he had been out on parole for two other rape cases.
MEC Weziwe Thusi says the attack shows how unsafe woman are, even in their own communities.

Thusi says the woman had been attacked by someone young enough to be her grandson.
"In a normal society, this man should have been the one protecting the family," she said.
The man was due to appear in court today.
MEC Thusi is expected to meet with the woman's family tomorrow.
