Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini emergency personnel have been placed on high alert following the level 2 warning of gale-force winds expected to hit the KwaZulu-Natal coast on Monday.
The South African Weather Service issued a stern warning yesterday on the probability of damaging gale force winds in areas including eThekwini.
Waves of between 4m to 6m were predicted to start at midnight and may settle in the afternoon on Monday.
Officials say this will trigger rough seas.

The expected bad weather will hit Port Edward first, spreading northwards towards Richards Bay.
"We are appealing to our residents to be cautious when using fire, more especially those who are residing in informal settlements," says eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela.
"We are more than ready to respond wherever we are required to respond. We'll continue to monitor this situation and update the public accordingly."
