Widow of slain councillor testifies at Moerane Commission
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The widow of a KwaZulu-Natal councillor killed outside his Pongola home broke down when sharing details of his death with the Moerane Commission of Inquiry in Durban.
Mbhekiseni Khumalo was gunned down on the doorstep of his home in December.
Thandazile Khumalo told the commission yesterday that the two people charged with her husband's murder will appear in court later this month.
"Myself and our two children, aged 15 and nine at the time, are still heavily traumatized. He was loved, even by children in the community. On that day someone had asked him to step outside the house. I never did hear the question he was asked. I only heard him give a reply that 'there is a way in which we do things within the municipality'. Shortly after I heard shots being fired. They had killed him," she says.
The commission is probing political violence in KZN.
