PHOTOS: Whale carcass removal operation still underway

Authorities are still busy removing a whale carcass from Pipeline beach in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.

The juvenile humpback whale beached yesterday morning and died before authorities reached the scene.

Local ward councillor, Andre Beetge estimates that about 80 percent of the carcass has already been removed.He says there has been a lot of shark activity in the water.

"The beaches remain closed, not only because of the carcass but also because the shark nets have not been reinstated due to the sardine run. We are asking people to be careful, remain out of the surf," he said.Meanwhile, drone footage from the beach has been posted on social media.
Local enthusiast, Gerhard Britz spent some of his day on the beach yesterday taking photos as the removal process unfolded.
