There's a Yellow Level 2 for severe storms that could lead to flooding as well as possible hail, excessive lightning and damaging winds in the central and western interior of KZN on Monday and Tuesday.

Two other warnings have been issued in parts of southern KZN, where it started pouring on Sunday evening.

One is an Orange Level 5 for disruptive over the extreme south-eastern parts like Pennington, Paddock, Margate, Port Shepstone and Port Edward.

The area's ward councillor, Alan Bosch, believes the storm was worse than the last floods that affected the province.

"The damage in Margate itself is quite extensive, particularly in the beachfront area and an area called Hunters Stream, which is a natural stream that feeds down into Margate.

“The buildings and sewage pumps are damaged. They've also been doing road works, replacing the main road. All that sewer came down, and cars were trapped there. The emergency services managed to free a few cars last night, but there were some there this morning.

Water has subsided.

What is also concerning is that the weather authorities tell us we are in for more rain from 17h00 this afternoon.

The rest of the southeast of the province is on Yellow Level 2.
