Level 2 and orange Level 5 warnings were issued for Port Edward, Port Shepstone, Umkomaas and Scottburgh.

Provincial spokesperson for the department of Cooperative Governance, Siboniso Mngadi, says they've been told some 24-hour falls will exceed 200 mm.

"These may lead to localised impacts such as flooding of settlements, roads; damage to houses, displacement of communities.

“Areas that are likely to be affected include eThekwini Metro, Umdoni, Umzumbe and Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipalities.”

The SA Weather Service says the heavy rainfall could lead to localised flooding in the areas.

"The South African Weather Service has issued an alert for disruptive rainfall that might lead to flooding for the areas along the coast,” says forecaster Thandiwe Gumede.

“Those will include areas like Pennington, Paddock, and Margate, as well as areas adjacent to them; that's where we have an Orange Level 5 warning. For areas adjacent to that, which will be the remainder of the south-eastern parts of the province, we have Yellow Level 2 for disruptive rain."
