We will enforce the law, Cele tells cops ahead of shutdown

Police Minister Bheki Cele has issued a strict directive for
officers to follow during today's EFF-led national shutdown.
Cele visited KZN this weekend to assess readiness ahead of the planned protest.
He said officers would be dispatched across the province and would keep a close eye on hotspots that are prone to violence.
"We must be there, anyone who gets in the way, anybody who steps out of the peaceful march, anyone who destroys property and begins to trample on the rights of the people, those people are breaking the law and we will enforce the law."

In Durban, the CBD, uMlazi, KwaMashu and Phoenix have been identified as hotspots where police deployment has been intensified.
During the 2021 July unrest, Phoenix emerged as a hotspot for racial violence.
"One terrible thing that's happened in that area, there was a high level of deaths and created a lot of racial tension, that's one thing we must avoid at all costs," Cele said
