We just want our daughter back: Mvoyo family

The family of an Umlazi girl who disappeared into the local river say they just want to hold their child again.

She had been playing with friends at the river earlier today when she got swept away.
The family has confirmed that Amahle is 9-year-sold and not six as previously reported.
Officers from the eThwekwini Metro Police and Durban Central's K9 Search and Rescue Unit scoured the river for about 5kms with two police dogs looking for Amahle, who is presumed to have drowned at this stage.

Initially, they thought they could sit in a rubber kayak and search the surface, but they had to abandon the idea due to sharp rocks in the river.They decided to wade in the water. Some of the officers told Newswatch the current was incredibly strong and they battled to keep up.

Standing near the banks of the river was little Amahle’s father, Sabelo Dladla who says the girl came back home early from school because there was a function.Dladla says Amahle went down to the river with her friends when her grandmother briefly went out of the house.
He says they are in a state of panic.
