Water supply 'back to normal' in Ilembe
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Umgeni Water says the water supply in Ilembe has returned to normal for residents living between Stanger and Mandini.
Technicians have managed to fix a major leak on a pipeline that forms part of the Lower Thukela Bulk Water Supply Scheme.
Spokesperson Shami Harichunder says they had to turn the water supply off for repairs that continued into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
"Umgeni Water had to shut down the pipeline. We budgeted 12 hours for the work, but however, the work was completed within seven hours. So full supply of water no to Ilembe District Municipality has resumed."

Harichunder has thanked residents for being patient.
"It was out of our control, it was emergency work and it had to be undertaken. If we do not undertake the work on an emergency basis, the reservoirs that store water and supply ultimately to Ilembe would have all been drained and there would have been no water for Illembe."
