'Unforeseen difficulties' hinder repairs at lower Tugela
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Umngeni Water says the outages affecting Ilembe residents following repairs in the lower Tugela should be a thing of the past.
Technicians detected a severe leak on a scour valve between Darnall and Hlomendlini and shut down water supplies to several communities for 12 hours on Saturday for repairs.
Umngeni's Shami Harichunder says there were some unforeseen difficulties.
"Work was undertaken. There were a few complications and the work could not be completed in the allocated time."
"The affected people who did not have water for several hours, they are in the area of Mandeni all the way to Groutville.
"We are fully aware that a number of consumers were affected and we sincerely apologise for that.
"However, this work had to be undertaken on an emergency basis, if we did not, the problems would have been far more serious."
