Water restrictions remain in place in KZN
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Water restrictions in KZN are staying.

Umgeni Water's Shami Harichunder says that if these regulations aren’t carried out, then 80% of Durban could face a water crisis in a year's time.
"Water restrictions will remain in place and the need for reduction of water use by consumers is also required. If it does not rain and high temperatures remain as they are, and if people do not use water sparingly, it is likely that we will reach dead storage in 12 months," he says.
Water levels at Albert Falls Dam, the largest distributor of water supply in the region, have dropped to 21% capacity.

Other reserves are in excess of 50%. With very little rain forecast over the next few months, Harichunder says they have taken steps to make sure we will cope.
"We now need to be proactive and we need to prevent this difficult period of serious water shortages and higher water restrictions. One of the most effective ways of ensuring that the little water resources available last as long as possible is to restrict its use," he says.
