WATCH:Durban runner tackles mental health in Mandela tribute
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
A Durban man has set himself a gruelling challenge to raise funds and awareness for mental health, and to honour Nelson Mandela.

Stuart Rayner and three fellow runners have begun a 466-kilometre run along Durban’s beachfront promenade.
They are planning to run non-stop for 64 hours in a 7.3km loop along Durban’s beachfront promenade.
“The 466 kilometer run was inspired by Nelson Mandela's, prison number, obviously 46664, symbolising resilience, hope, and the fight of freedom just as Mandela endured a hardship for a greater cause. This run represents defence, a mental and physical battle against anxiety and depression,” Rayner explained.
He said that each kilometer is meant to find healing, turning Mandela's legacy into a modern movement for mental health awareness.
Also for every 7.28 kilometres, a rose is given to a stranger along the route. “With 64 loops totaling 466 kilometres, 64 roses will be given—each representing hope and resilience,” says Rayner.

The event, Journi 46664, will raise funds and awareness for the South African Depression and Anxiety Group.
SADAG says one in three South Africans will face a mental health issue but only one in 10 receive treatment. It receives up to 3,000 calls daily, with a quarter linked to suicide.

Rayner, who’s battled OCD and anxiety, says running for him has been healing.
“It created a sense of control and calm to my life, and it really has been a medication. It’s been my meditation ever since, and I haven't stopped running because I've obviously felt the positive effects that have come from running. It's just beautiful."
He’s also invited locals to run a lap with them, or to go and cheer them on.
