WATCH: Violence at UKZN Westville leads to the suspension of lectures
The academic programme at UKZN's Westville and Howard College campouses have been suspended until further notice.
It follows violence on the Westville campus earlier today, during student protests.
University management says the decision has been taken in an effort to restore calm to the institutions.
They say they also hope to identify those instigating the violent protests on university premises.

UKZN Westville SRC's Philani Ntshobeni says the protests were sparked by rumours that the university had decided on a fee increment for 2017 - but management has rubbished this.
The police's Sally de Beer says some students were arrested for public violence during the protests.
"We continue to monitor the situation, and we will continue to keep a presence there. I will give an update on the number of arrests at a later stage today," she said.
In a communique issued by UKZN management, students were cautioned from engaging in unlawful protest action, due to a High Court interdict preventing them from doing so.
