WATCH: Snow transforms mountains into a winter wonderland
Updated | By Jacaranda fm
Heavy snowfall has transformed high lying areas of the Western and Eastern Cape into magical winter landscapes on Tuesday, as a massive cold front blanketed large part of the country.
The front is expected to move out of the country by Wednesday, bringing in its wake very cold conditions over parts of the interior.
The South African Weather Services (SAWS) says the cold front is typical of late winter.
"Some disruptive snowfalls can also be expected over the Western Cape, but over the higher mountains of the region, including Sutherland (Northern Cape) and Beaufort West (Western Cape)," said the Weather Service as part of their forecast.

As the front moves over to the east of the country by Wednesday, more wind gusts are expected.
"Winds countrywide will also have lessened significantly, although fresh to strong south-westerly to southerly winds may still occur at places along the south-eastern and eastern coast.”
The southern half of the country is expected to remain cold on Wednesday and Thursday.
