[WATCH] Shack fire destroys at least 20 homes in Cato Crest

A fire that ripped through an informal settlement in Cato Crest in Durban this morning has been extinguished.
eThekwini Fire's Justin Bateman says at least 20 homes were gutted near the King Cetshwayo Highway and Vusi Mzimele Road junction, those are formerly Jan Smuts and Bellair Road.
He says no one was hurt.

"We extinguished the fire about half an hour ago and the crew is busy dampening down and sifting through the rubble."
"At this point in time, the destruction was so complete that determining an actual start point is quite impossible. The cause could have been anything, it could've been a candle or stove. We do have a lot of illegal connection here as well."
