Nomathemba Shandu, from Amandlethu High School, was the first person to join the queue outside the KwaMashu Sports Centre, where KwaZulu-Natal's vaccination drive for educators was officially launched

Shandu said it's an important day for all staff in the sector.

"I am feeling very happy. The process was good and very quick. It was very important because it was dangerous to be exposed to kids because they are coming from different families - others work for people, they travel, so we were at a high risk. So it was very important to get vaccinated."

Thobizwe Mthiyane, from Amaoti No.3 Secondary School, arrived early to receive his shot.

"I am so excited, I said I will be one of the first people to come. If there is an opportunity of increasing your safety, you have to jump to that opportunity because we meet learners from different places of life and different behaviours."

Sarah Mbhele, from Duduzani Primary School, says she and her colleagues have been concerned about the rising number of Covid infections.

"It means a lot. We have been worried about learners getting infected, but today we are excited that we won't worry anymore."
