Workers from the eThekwini Water and Sanitation Unit, who are unhappy with new overtime and allowance rules, have protested in the Durban CBD.
About 500 employees gathered outside the Prior Road Water and Sanitation offices on Thursday looking for answers.
Some of the workers say from this month, they will not be paid their overtime and standby allowance.
The eThekwini EXCO recently took a decision to cap claims for overtime across all units in a bid to rein in spending.

This has not gone down well, with workers from the Durban Solid Waste Department among the first to protest the move.
It’s led to a backlog in waste collection around the city.
At Thursday’s demonstration, one worker told Newswatch the municipality is taking food out of the mouths of many families.
It’s understood the protesting employees will later meet with senior managers to discuss their issues.
