Durban metro police say a fire in the CBD spread to about 14 shops on Thursday night.

They believe the blaze broke out in a storage facility for vendors on Dr AB Xuma Street, formerly known as Commercial Road.
Spokesperson Parboo Sewpersad says, according to a group of hawkers, a strong odour of gas caught their attention when the fire began.
