Expired, unlabeled and toxic baby formula, sweets and chips are some of the items confiscated during raids at spaza shops in Umlazi.

Inspectors from the KZN Business Regulations and Consumer Protection Unit surprised several outlets in Malukazi on Monday.
The unit says the shops that were found to be non-compliant are owned by foreign nationals.

During the raids, two undocumented foreign nationals were arrested by Home Affairs' Immigration Unit.
KZN Economic Development spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says a tavern was also shut down by KZN Liquor Authority officials for unlawfully selling alcohol in the early hours of the morning.
"The main focus is to protect honest entrepreneurs in townships and in rural areas in KwaZulu-Natal and they will complaints coming from all corners of the province - entrepreneurs complaining about counterfeit goods, expired foods that are sold by illegal and undocumented foreign nationals and the safety of our communities is extremely important."
