Police have arrested a 35-year-old rape suspect who'd been on the run for more than a year.

The man was wanted for crimes in Sydenham last year.
SAPS spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says officers tracked the suspect down in the Eastern Cape.
"Police officers from the Inanda Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested a 35-year-old man at Mount Aylif in Eastern Cape for two counts of rape, one of which was a gang rape.
"It is alleged that during the month January 2019, a 35-year-old man was drinking at a tavern in Sydenham with his friends and they were in the company of one of the friend's girlfriend.
"Following the drinking spree, their friend and his girlfriend were drunk and had passed out. The suspect together with two men decided to rape their friend's girlfriend," says Mbele.

Mbele says the second alleged rape incident took place a month later.
"The suspect assaulted a young woman at a communal bathroom in Sydenham accusing her
of calling him with a derogatory word. A 24-year-old woman who was with the one
who was being assaulted protested and told the suspect that the female he was
assaulting did not say anything to him.
"This angered the suspect who turned his attention to the 24-year-old woman and threatened her with a knife. He took her to his girlfriend's room where he raped her repeatedly," says Mbele.
The 35-year-old man will be charged with two charges of rape.
Mbele says the suspect will appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Friday.
