Wanted suspect killed in shootout with police in Inanda

A suspect linked to a gang believed to have shot dead a police officer last week has been killed in a police shootout in Inanda, north of Durban on Tuesday afternoon.

This brings to five the number of suspects killed.
"It was a follow up investigation by Hawks members. They worked together with other stakeholders such Crime Intelligence and National Intervention Unit as well as private security," says KZN Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo.

"They were looking for this suspect. Unfortunately, the suspect shot at police and the police shot back in self-defence and he was fatally wounded."
Mhlongo says the suspect and his group had been wanted for a string of murders committed in the Durban North area from last month.
Police closed in on the gang at a home in Ntuzuma's C-section last Tuesday.

Four suspects and Warrant Officer Sthembiso Mazibuko died in that gun battle.
Another police officer was wounded.
Mazibuko, who was a member of the National Intervention Unit, was laid to rest in KwaMashu over weekend.
