Voter registration drive in KZN off to smooth start: IEC

The Independent Electoral Commission says this weekend's voter registration drive in KZN, went smoothly.

Some 40 wards in the country will participate in next month's by-elections - seven of them are in KwaZulu Natal. These include wards under eThekwini Municipality, Nquthu and Pongola.


The IEC's Kate Baphela says in terms of KZN, they have not received any report that our provincial team can work with. The voter registration weekend is normally quiet, people come and register and go.

"There are a lot of people using the digital platforms that are available."  


Baphela says it was a relatively quiet registration weekend but COVID-19 protocols were followed, " We make sure that when they come into the voting station, we provide them with proficient PPE's so that they are protected and work in a comfortable environment."
