Visitor numbers up in KZN

2015 promises to be a fruitful festive season for tourism in KwaZulu-Natal with visitor number up compared to last year.

Economic Development and Tourism MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu says the increase became apparent at the beginning of the month.
1.9-million vehicles were recorded passing through the Mooi River Toll Plaza compared to 1.6-million during the same period last year.

Mabuyakhulu attributes this in part to the growing number of airlines flying to and from King Shaka International Airtport north of Durban.
''In the one particular case launched on December 16, 64% of the people who were on an Ethiopian Airline flight, the inaugural flight to Durban, were people who had bought five-day holidays to spend in KwaZulu-Natal.
''So indeed we must say that we are seeing a much better season this year,'' he said.
