Holidaymakers urged to adhere to beach regulations

Durban Metro Police are urging revellers taking advantage of the holiday season on the city’s beaches to do so responsibly or risk being slapped with a summons.

Metro’s Steve Middleton says thousands of people flocked to the beaches this weekend.
Middleton says people who head to the beach will not be allowed to take alcohol with them.
He’s also warning against camp fires, braais, littering and sleeping overnight at the beachfront.
Middleton says officers will be enforcing municipal bylaws and other regulations during the holiday period.
"We do have the seashore regulations which say you cannot be intoxicated and or take drinks to the beachfront. That's why to a large extent, we turn vehicles away that have drinks in them.
"But because of the numbers, it's virtually impossible to get to everybody so we're aware of the fact that there is drinking in the beachfront but we're trying to enforce the seashore regulations as best as we can," he said.
