Video: Fire tears through Durban informal settlement
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A fire has engulfed homes at Lacey Road informal settlement in the Sydenham area.
It's understood the blaze started on Friday afternoon.
The area is home to several shacks, and residents close to the blaze have been rushing to secure belongings.
Life Response spokesperson, Leon Fourie says firefighters are still trying to contain the blaze.
"It looks like approximately 50 shacks have gone up in flames. Most of the fire has been extinguished, and they are dampening down at this stage."

Fourie says so far there's been one injury.
"There was a little girl that was injured in the fire. She was treated on scene and then transported to a nearby hospital for further care. No one else has been injured at this stage."
Once the blaze has been fully doused, officials are expected to give a tally of homes burnt to the ground and possibly a number of those displaced.
A massive fire has broken out at an informal settlement in Overport on Randles Road.
