72 road fatalities recorded in KZN since Level 3
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KZN Transport MEC, Bheki Ntuli says 72 people have been killed on the province's roads since the country moved to Level 3 of the lockdown on 1 June.
Ntuli made the remarks at the reopening of the M4 Ruth First Highway between Umhlanga and Sibaya on Friday.
The roadway partially collapsed due to storms and heavy rain last year.
Ntuli says the province saw very little road accident fatalities during Level 4 and 5 of the lockdown.
Ntuli attributed the spike in accidents to the unbanning of liquor sales and called for the prohibition to be reinstated.

"We are not going to be sympathetic to the drivers or motorists that are using their vehicles under the influence of liquor.
"If the influence is so bad that it would result in these fatalities. I think we agree that it should be banned."
