Vice-chancellors to meet to discuss an end to violent uni protests

In recent weeks, there has been unrest at three UKZN campuses, as well as DUT and UniZulu - over fees and representation, SRC elections and in-sourcing amongst others.
The Premier's spokesperson Ndabazinhle Sibiya says Mchunu is pleading with students to focus on their studies, while he meets with varsity heads to find solutions to the problems.
"The provincial administrative council Legotla has mandated him to convene a meeting with the vice-chancellors and the heads of tertiary institutions/ colleges across the province of KwaZulu-Natal, with a view of discussing matters in or related to the provision of quality education in our province," he said.

UKZN is expected to re-open tomorrow after management decided to bring the Spring Break forward - when protests brought the academic programme to a halt.
Meanwhile, UCT has announced that classes, lectures and tests have been suspended today - following consultations with various stakeholders.
Libraries will also be closed.
Management says the security situation at the institution will be assessed throughout the day.
Students protested last week after the varsity instituted action against three students who allegedly committed criminal acts during protests, earlier in the year.
