Veteran TV journalist drowns in Mozambique

Veteran South Africa journalist, Ben Said has passed away in Mozambique.

Said drowned yesterday while on holiday with his family.

The well-known reporter had just rejoined eNCA as Director of News after spending several years abroad, working for a Turkish broadcaster.

He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

Condolences and tributes are streaming in from colleagues, political parties and government.

eNCA says his loss to the channel is immense.

“Ben was one of the country’s best television journalists and his loss to the station is immense. Having just re-joined the station, he was already making his presence felt across all aspects of the business. We are all in deep shock,” said eNCA's Jeremy Maggs.

Government said in a statement that the death of a journalist of  Said's calibre makes the media profession poorer.
