Vet personnel could be linked to dog fighting incidents: SPCA
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The SPCA in Pietermaritzburg says it's concerned that some people from within the veterinary servicessector - at some level - are part of a larger group responsible for illegal dog fighting pits in the provincial capital.
The SPCA's Alec Wylie has been commenting after at least four incidents over the past week in which dogs were stolen.
They have also treated animals hurt in fights.
"We do suspect possible vet personnel are involved. Drugs are getting to these people so that they can treat their dogs after fights. All of this is hard to prove as when they have a fight, they have look-outs."

Wylie says it's difficult to prove such cases - as people generally disperse before authorities can reach the illegal fighting pits.
