Verulam sisters rescued from burning home
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Emergency officials say the quick actions of Verulam residents helped save the lives of two sisters who were trapped in their burning home.
Reaction Unit South Africa's Prem Balram says the blaze broke out in their Katsura Drive home in Trenance Park on Monday.
"Residents in the area, when they noticed the smoke, they ran to the residence and they heard screams.
"They sued the ladder, got onto the first floor and removed those two females by breaking the window and removing the bulgur guards."

Balram says the siblings, one of whom is 10-years-old, were in shock.
"Both sustained minor injuries. They had several scathed and they were crying hysterically when Reaction officers got on scene. They were treated by paramedics and later discharged. It was not a serious injury."
eThekwini fire fighters who extinguished the blaze say investigations are under way into the cause of the fire.
