Verulam rape suspect back in custody

The man accused of raping his 10-year-old step-daughter in Verulam, north of Durban is back in police custody.
Private security company, Reaction Unit SA claims the man managed to escape from hospital.
The suspect was taken to a medical facility after initially being picked up last night.
He had been assaulted by angry community members after the little girl told a neighbour about the attacks.
RUSA posted a statement on its Facebook page saying the man was located at a nearby business this afternoon.

But police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele has denied allegations that he escaped from hospital.
Mbhele says the man is due in court tomorrow facing a charge of rape.
The little girl's mother is believed to have died several years ago.

Officers are also investigating whether the child was kept captive by her stepfather.
