Verulam child rape accused to plead not guilty
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
A Verulam man accused of repeatedly raping his 10-year-old step-daughter, says it is all a lie.
The 43-year-old faces a total of 10 charges, including rape - of which the State says there are at least 900 instances, spanning over a five-year period - and sexual grooming of a minor
His bail application is currently underway in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court and his Legal Aid attorney has handed in an affidavit - deposed by his client - in support of his application.
In it, the man refers to the complainant as his daughter.
He says the case against him is fabricated and that there is no DNA evidence linking him to the charges.
He says the State’s case is weak and that he has three children who - while they do not live with him - he supports financially.
He says he can afford R2 000 bail.
