Vandalism blamed for eThekwini's pre-paid electricity outage
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
eThekwini's Head of Electricity says vandalism is what's caused a network problem that's affected its online systems.

Some customers have not been able to buy pre-paid electricity vouchers, as one Umhlanga resident explained.
"I am beyond frustrated with issues regarding electricity tokens. The fact that I slept in the dark, now that I can't even purchase electricity even at the municipal offices, is even worse.
"I now have to pack my family with my two-year-old daughter to my sister-in-law's house in Durban North, where we are going to stay. We can't live like this."

Head of Electricity Maxwell Mthembu says technicians are working on getting systems back online.
He says some machines are working.
"The prepaid machine is functioning, that is why other customers are able to buy tokens but buying at limited centres."
He says those who need to buy electricity tokens can go to the Rotunda Customer Service Centre at the electricity head office next to Durban Station Bus Terminal.
